In this course you will discover the fascinating and multi-coloured world of opals: precious opals, common opals … How opal is formed, where it is found, will be explained. Opal treatments, synthetic materials and imitations will be defined.

OBJECTIVES

To understand and be able to identify the different opals, their geographical origin, their different qualities.

TRAINING HIGHLIGHTS

  • The scientific credibility and renown of the Laboratoire Français de Gemmologie, LFG (French Gemmological Laboratory) within the gem and jewellery trade
  • Education keeping up with the latest industry news
  • Training provided by an expert
  • Lab classes in small groups (10 people maximum per group)

TEACHING METHODS AND RESOURCES

  • Theoretical and practical tuition: use of the loupe and the binocular microscope, observation of different samples (including the opal reference set from the LFG collection)
